NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY AT HOME IN LONDON

GRACIE

There is something very special about photographing a newborn at home, in the place where the first days of family life are unfolding. Rather than moving everyone to a studio, I prefer to work in the spaces where a family already feels comfortable, surrounded by familiar light, rooms and routines.

Newborn sessions are always relaxed and flexible. We take the time we need for feeding, changing and settling so nothing ever feels rushed. The rhythm of the session follows the baby rather than a strict schedule, which usually means the most natural photographs happen in between the quiet moments of everyday life.

For this session I spent the morning with Gracie and her parents in their home in London, documenting those early days together as they begin life as a new family.

“THESE ARE PERFECT!!”

FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS AT HOME

As babies grow, many families choose to continue photographing these early years at home. A familiar environment helps everyone relax, whether it’s a newborn curled up on the bed, a toddler exploring the sitting room, or siblings playing together in the spaces they know best.

Home sessions are simple and unstructured. We might move between a bedroom, a sofa by the window or the kitchen table, following the natural rhythm of family life rather than a set plan. The aim is always to create photographs that feel honest and personal, capturing a small moment of life together.

I photograph family sessions in homes across London, creating relaxed portraits that reflect each family’s everyday world.

FAQS ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHING A NEWBORN

  • Newborn sessions are often photographed within the first two to three weeks after a baby arrives, when they are still very sleepy and naturally curled up. That said, there is no strict rule. Beautiful photographs can be made at any stage during the early weeks, and I always work flexibly around each family’s schedule.

  • Yes. I photograph newborn sessions in families’ homes across London rather than in a studio. Being at home helps everyone feel more relaxed, and it means the photographs naturally reflect the space where these early days of family life are unfolding.

  • That is completely expected. I always allow plenty of time for feeding, changing and settling so nothing ever feels rushed. Newborn sessions move at the baby’s pace, and we simply pause whenever needed.

  • Most newborn sessions last around one to two hours. This gives us time to work slowly and naturally, capturing moments with your baby without putting any pressure on the day.

  • Soft, simple clothing works best. Neutral colours and comfortable fabrics photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on the connection between parents and their baby. I’m always happy to offer guidance ahead of your session if helpful.

  • There is absolutely no need to prepare your home in any special way. When photographing families in London homes I simply look for the rooms with the best natural light, which is often just a bedroom or sitting room. The aim is to capture a relaxed and natural record of these early days together.

  • Yes, I photograph newborn and family sessions in homes throughout London. Working at home means sessions can take place wherever a family feels most comfortable, whether that’s a small flat, a house filled with siblings and pets, or somewhere in between.
