SUMMER WEDDING AT THE HUNGRY CYCLIST, PROVENCE
V & T
Some weddings feel good from the moment you arrive. Vicky and Tom’s was exactly that. Set at The Hungry Cyclist in Provence, it had all the ingredients for a brilliant day. Late summer sunshine, a courtyard full of friends and family, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere where everything unfolds naturally.
This was very much a wedding where everyone was involved - from collecting flowers from the hedgerow for Vicky’s bouquet to ushers hiking up into the vineyards to set up the ceremony chairs and guest cutting limes for the cocktails.
The morning began with traditional Chinese door games before guests gathered for an outdoor ceremony among the vines. From there the day rolled on in the most joyful way. Oysters and local wine, a brass band weaving through the courtyard, a rare classic car appearing out of nowhere, and cocktails shaken by the bride herself as the evening slipped into night. One of those weddings where the best moments happen in between everything else.

THE HUNGRY CYCLIST, BURGUNDY
Not a traditional wedding venue but wow does this venue deliver! You are hosted by the inimitable Tom Kevill-Davis who has combined his passions of cycling and eating into this absolutely delightful and cosy lodge housed in a previously derelict 17th century water mill in the village of Auxey-Duresses.
Tom is a fantastic and hands on host who leads bike rides and is a wealth of local knowledge. The house itself is the centre of the estate and there are various converted spaces in old barns and cottages that can be rented on a b&b basis or as a whole as Vicky and Tom did.
There are vineyards which are worked by hand by Tom which produces the most delicious Vin du Moulin wine which we got to sample during the wedding. I cannot recommend a stay in this beautiful and peaceful part of the world enough.
I photograph weddings across London, the UK and Europe, and destination celebrations like this one in Burgundy are always a joy to document.
