Wedding photography at Fulham Palace

As less than half of my wedding photography work take place in London it’s always a treat to be able to just hop on public transport and head across the city to a relatively local wedding to a venue such as Fulham Palace. As is usual for my brides, Zara was getting ready with her bridesmaid and parents at her family home in Fulham, only minutes walk from the local church - All Saints in Fulham. Whilst I covered the bridal preparations, my second photographer Soven headed to meet Alex and the guys at a restaurant on the Kings Road for the ushers breakfast.

Zara and Alex chose Fulham Palace for their wedding as it was close to where Zara grew up and a short distance from the the house. She says “It’s a beautiful and unknown corner of London that feels like you’re in the middle of the countryside. Heaven!  It perfectly reflected the look and feel I was going for - lots of greenery, beautiful building, courtyard and gardens, and guests could walk there from the church. All felt very relaxed and not too formal which can sometimes happen with city weddings. Oh and the epic weather helped!”

Her beautiful and very photogenic dress was by Jesus Peiro, found in a boutique called Miss Bush. For the rest of the suppliers check the end of the blog.

Photos of the wedding day

As usual the story of the day starts with bridal preparations, pictures setting the scene of the day and a great way for me to get to know the key people important to Zara and Alex. It was a short walk down to the church where Zara’s father escorted her down the aisle for a traditional ceremony. After the ceremony guests made the short walk as the weather was so warm down to Fulham Palace for the wedding reception with canapés and champagne served in the main courtyard. Group photos were a fairly relaxed affair out in the lawn and the cake was cut in the courtyard before I whisked the bride and groom out into the locked walled garden for some privacy for their couples shoot as the sunset. British weather is so unpredictable at the best of times so this was a perfect summers evening with the sunshine streaming into the palace gardens which resulted in some golden photography. A lovely opportunity for the newly weds to take a break from the celebrations, catch up on the day and prepare for the fun of the evening.

They made their entrance into the beautifully dressed marquee in the grounds of Fulham Palace for speeches and the wedding breakfast. Dancing was back in the main hall with trays of cocktails for the guests to get the party. started.

The best London wedding suppliers

As ever a team of fantastic wedding suppliers were behind this beautiful day. The flowers were by Miranda Fairhurst - including lots of natural whites and greens. Emma Kim and Laura Barrow were at the house at the start of the day for hair and make-up for the girls. The cake was by Luminary Bakery, an amazing social enterprise supporting women. Entertainment was from The Guilty Pleasures and The Might Lite. Tess, the maid of honour for a beautiful bridesmaids dress from ReWritten. The page boys and bridesmaids wore outfits from Amelia Brennan and all had Superga trainers, a favourite brand of Zara. The Calligraphy and bar menu etc were by the amazing Laura at Embellishing The Ordinary.  Videography from Ash Videography. John at English Wedding Cars sorted  the coolest 1960s Bentley Flying Spur. And as well as delicious champagne and wine, and too many cocktails on demand, we had Fowey Cider served during the drinks reception in a nod to happy holidays in Cornwall and Alex’s true love of cider.

Fulham Palace - a perfect London wedding venue

This historic and grand venue set on the banks of the Thames offers a really beautiful backdrop to any wedding, celebration or event. The lovely and professional planning team are on hand to help you bring your vision for your day to life and facilitate your photography. The palace itself has four rooms, all licensed for civil ceremonies so you can opt to either get married at one of the local churches and have your reception at the palace, or you can choose to host your entire celebrations in the range of indoor outdoor spaces that Fulham Palace offers. As well as two courtyards which are perfect for summer reception drinks you can also use the purpose built marquee to host your supper. The grounds are extensive and attract visitors from all over the world. It’s possible to get private access to the spectacular walled garden for couple photos and portraits.
