Getting married at Sunbeam Studios

Although I love to travel and it’s a treat to get to shoot a wedding abroad my heart and home is in London and there is nothing nicer than jumping on the tube across town to join a local wedding celebration.

I’d worked professionally at Sunbeam before for commercial shoots - it’s original purposes - but it now offers a quirky, modern and spacious backdrop for weddings.

Hannah and James are both in creative industries and were looking for the opportunity to work with a blank canvas to create their own contemporary style using floral design.

With Sunbeam offering different spaces they were able to utilise the Talbot Hall for the ceremony before moving through to the main studio space and garden for canapés, champagne and speeches followed by dinner into the Rootes Hall for supper.

Weddings, blessings and civil ceremonies in West London

Through the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Sunbeam Studios is licensed to host civil marriage ceremonies. They have a fantastic, dedicated wedding planning team who can manage every aspect of your day and take all the stress out of planning your wedding.

Your wedding day at Sunbeam Studios

Sunbeam is one of London’s most unusual venues - combining an architectural blende of Edwardian elegance and modern aesthetic. The entrance to Sunbeam Studios is on a quiet road in West London and you arrive via a cobbled drive into the covered portico and enter the building through ornate double doors into the Talbot Hall, which can be used for ceremonies, with a capacity of 160 guests. This space can also be used later in the evening if you have exclusive usage of the venue for your wedding day. The main reception is usually in the main hall under the iconic bas relief of the original Sunbeam Talbot logo -the building was originally a purpose built car factory and showroom built in 1903.

The space really offers a blank canvas for your creativity with flowers, furniture and lighting. The main studio has an infinity wall which can be used for projecting your personal images or films throughout the day. It opens out into the garden which is lovely to spill out into on a warm summers evening.

The spaces are separated enough to create a grand entrance as you move your wedding guests from the reception into the Rootes Hall which is usually used for the wedding breakfast. The bride and groom can make their appearance from the mezzanine. For dancing you can head back into the main hall which, with some clever event and lighting production, can be transferred into a unique and gorgeous dance floor with mirrorball, fairy lights and uplighters.

What happened at Sunbeam Studios before weddings took place here?

There is a huge bas receive of the original Sunbeam Talbot logo in the main studio. It was originally built as Ladbroke Hall to house the first purpose built car factory and showroom in the UK. It opened in 1903. It was also used by Winston Churchill for his experimental warfare establishment in WW1.

Wedding portraits at Photographic Studio

Whatever the weather, Sunbeam Studios provides a perfect backdrop for photos - whether formal posed family pictures or your couple portraits after the ceremony. In dry weather the cobbled entrance way, garden area and surrounding streets are very picturesque - and in wet weather then the building itself is flooded with light and has grand sweeping staircases and a terrazzo-floored mezzanine, marble floors and wood panelled walls.
